	17:“POLLUTION OF INDUS WATER TO INDUSTRIAL EFFLUENT OF M/S CLARIANT PAKISTAN LIMITED, JAMSHORO”

The Clariant Pakistan Limited (formally Sandoz – Pharmaceutical Company) is located in Jamshoro on Petaro Road. It abstracts water for industrial use from Kalari Beghar Feeder and disposes its wastewater in to river Indus at about 3 kilometers upstream of Kotri Barrage. The Clariant Pakistan Limited has been manufacturing medicine since a long time. However, it also started manufacturing glue within its current premises, making the effluent extremely hazardous and poisonous. \this has created nuisance in the area and is polluting the fresh water of River Indus. It is imperative that this water is then supplied to Hyderabad city through Akram Wah, operated and maintained by the Left Bank Canal Area Water Board.
In this regard the General Manager (R&D) and EMU Team visited the site along with EPA and IPD officials. During the visit the movie of site area was recorded and photographs were drawn. Research and Development prepared a comprehensive report on this visit which is available in the R&D Section of SIDA, Hyderabad.
