20:VISIT OF ENGRO CHEMICAL FERTILIZER CO. AND LIBERTY POWER PLANT DAHRAKI IN GHOTKI FEEDER CANAL AREA WATER BOARD JUNE-2005 |
SIDA Team consisted on General Manager (R&D), Director EMU-SIDA and Deputy Director (Water Resources) EMU-SIDA, visited to the Engro Chemical Fertilizer Company and Liberty Power Plant on dated 2 nd June to 4 th June, 2005 . The meeting was held and discussed with Mr. Jahangir Piracha (Safty and environmental Manager) for joint visit of Engro Chemical Fertilizer Company. He briefed the visiting team about back ground and taken safety and environmental measures by the company.
He informed the visiting team that this factory was installed by United States of America (USA) in 1968. The covered area of the factory is about 500 acres. There were three installed plants out of which two were of Urea and third of Ammonia. These three units remained under operation about twenty-four hours. But some time these had been closed for maintaining purpose. He told that the industry itself generated electricity for operating plant.
During construction of factory, at that time there was desert area with dune of sand in the surrounding area of factory. There was no villages situated in the adjacent area but later villages have been located around the factory.
