Pakistan is blessed with great potential of natural resources. The network of major rivers comprising of Indus , Jhelum , Chenab and Kabul is also one the greatest natural resources.
he province of Sindh has the privilege of passage of mighty River Indus within its boundaries carrying cumulative discharge of all the rivers of Pakistan , which caters for agriculture, domestic, industrial and other needs of this province.
The irrigation canals network of three barrages on River Indus viz Gudu, Sukkur and Kotri delivers the water to the nook and corner of the province. Utilization efficiency of water is of great importance, in view of ever growing population, which increases need of food and fiber manifold. Sustainability of the irrigation network is yet another important issue, which needs to be addressed according to latest trends. For the purpose of proper utilization of every drop of water, the Government of Sindh has embarked upon the reforms for management operation and maintenance of the system.
Creation of Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority (SIDA) is aimed at proper utilization of water, establishment of sustainable system and participation of the farmers in this process, who are the ultimate users of this system.
Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority's success in carrying out reforms will go long way for achieving the goals of prosperity, economic wellbeing, poverty alleviation and development etc.
I would request the farmers and all stakeholders to participate in the management affairs of the irrigation network with commitment and dedication to make the reforms a great success.
